ALECSO celebrates Teachers’ Day in Arab Countries

On the occasion of the celebration of “Teachers’ Day in Arab Countries”, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, inaugurated, on March 1, 2021, a webinar on “The Socio-Economic Status of Arab Teachers in Times of Crises”.

The webinar was organized by ALECSO, jointly with the Saudi National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, and Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance. The United Arab Emirates University and a number of Saudi Colleges of Education took part in the webinar.

In his opening statement, Dr. Ould Amar indicated that upgrading teacher performance at all levels of education has always been one of ALECSO’s priorities and occupies a significant place in its projects and programs. This is reflected in the Organization’s working references, scientific documents, and training programs at national, Arab and sub-regional levels, which the Organization has implemented over the past years using recent methods and practical approaches.

Dr. Ould Amar added that the teacher is, in the eyes of ALECSO, the cornerstone of the educational process, and that any qualitative education reform can only be achieved through the qualitative upgrading of the teacher. This requires establishing standards and developing the ethics of the teaching profession, as well as improving the teacher’s working environment; thereby improving the performance of teachers, protecting their interests, and empowering them to cope with new developments and challenges. In this context, he called for the need to enhance the social, economic and moral status of teachers, being the educators of the builders of tomorrow.

Dr. Ould Amar concluded by paying high tribute to all teachers across the Arab world for the generous efforts they invest to fulfill their mission as best as possible, especially amid the current circumstances marked by the repercussions of the COVID-19 crisis.

Participants in the webinar included, in particular, the Secretary-General of Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance, the Acting Dean of the College of Education at the United Arab Emirates University, the representative of the Saudi Ministry of Education, the President of the Federation of Arab Teachers, the Dean of a Faculty at King Saud University (Saudi Arabia) and a number of Faculty members, the directors of ALECSO’s technical departments, and the representative of the Saudi Ambassador to Tunisia.
