ALECSO holds webinar to mark Arab Literacy Day

In celebration of the Arab Literacy Day, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Education Department) held, on January 8, 2021, a webinar on “Best Practices in Adult Learning and Education in Arab Countries within the Education 2030 Framework for Action”.

The webinar brought together officials and experts from the public and private sectors and from civil society organizations in the Arab countries. It was an opportunity to share knowledge and information on best practices and experiences in adult learning and education (ALE), and on the best ways to further promote joint Arab action for the implementation of Target 4 of Goal 6 of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Presentations focused on ALE tools and programs and the means of upgrading their quality, and highlighted the need to further invest in ALE which plays a key role in sustainable development.

The webinar concluded with recommendations to improve the ALE system in the Arab countries, including, in particular, developing a comprehensive and integrated vision based on ensuring the right to inclusive and equitable quality education for all, linking the school to its social and economic environment, and providing a propitious climate for the implementation of literacy and ALE programs and projects.
