ALECSO implements regional training session on   “the interim assessment of national sustainable development plans

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, opened, on December 28, 2020, a remote training session, organized by the Education Department, to strengthen the capacities of Arab educational leaders in the interim assessment of national sustainable development plans.

In his opening statement, Dr. Ould Amar indicated that Arab countries have been striving for years to provide adequate conditions that help ensure opportunities of access to quality education for their citizens, after most of them having made significant achievements in increasing school enrollment, reducing gender disparities, and reaching out to the most vulnerable segments of society.

Dr. Ould Amar  noted that the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development, including Goal 4 on “Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”, has provided an adequate framework for action, cooperation and partnership at national, regional and global levels. Within this framework, he added, ALECSO coordinates with Member States and with its partners in order to move forward in achieving this goal, based on its belief in the importance of quality education in promoting individuals and societies, changing people’s living conditions, enhancing economic growth, strengthening social integration, and developing the human capital. This coordination is particularly focused on monitoring, assessment, and the provision of objective data on progress in achieving Goal 4, which helps to strengthen national capacities in the assessment of sustainable development plans.

This training event, attended by about thirty officials and experts from eight countries, was an opportunity to share information and experiences regarding the interim assessment of national development plans.
