   ALECSO celebrates “International Day of Persons with Disabilities”  with a Sign Language Theater performance

 

 

 

In celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd of each year), the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) invited a theater group composed of deaf and hard-of-hearing actors to perform a theater show using sign language. The show included three parts:

Part 1 : Performing the Tunisian national anthem in sign language;

Part 2 : Representation of a poem in sign language;

Part 3 : A comedy sketch about modern technology and its impacts on individual behavior and social customs and traditions.

The performance was highly admired by all attendees, including H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, along with representatives of a number of relevant associations, ALECSO staff members, and a group of disabled children and youth.

This event aimed at deepening understanding of disability issues and of the rights of people with disabilities as an integral part of human rights. It was designed to raise awareness of the social, educational, cultural and economic conditions of disabled people, and of the need to further enhance their social integration.
