A new ALECSO publication : “Toward an Arab strategy to counter violent extremism and radical thinking and address their effects”

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Education Department) has recently published a scientific study, prepared by Dr. Fethi Jarray, entitled “Toward an Arab strategy to counter violent extremism and radical thinking and address their effects”,.
The study considers that poverty, unemployment, marginalization, discrimination, family and social disintegration, poor education quality, and inability to invest in the future, are among the main causes behind the spread of violent extremism, which extremist groups are seeking to exploit to attract and recruit young people.
To counter violent extremism, the study proposes a comprehensive approach that essentially involves empowering youth intellectually, culturally and economically, enhancing the values of citizenship and human rights, and fostering the role of educational, training and cultural institutions.
This study is aligned with ALECSO’s vision for adopting a comprehensive approach to address the issue of violent extremism. This approach involves exploring the root causes of violent extremism and its intellectual, economic, educational and cultural dimensions, and providing thorough and sustainable solutions, as part of an Arab strategy that aims to ensure safety and security for all, uphold the values of coexistence, dialogue and solidarity, reject violence, exclusion and marginalization, counter and prevent violent extremism, and promote equitable development for all.
