meeting of Culture Ministers of G-20 States

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, took part in the joint meeting of Culture Ministers of G-20 States and heads of international cultural organizations, held on November 4, 2020 on the sidelines of the Saudi G20 Presidency, ahead of the G20 Summit, to take place on November 21-22, 2020 under the chairmanship of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The meeting aims to discuss ways of enhancing the presence of culture, strengthening global cultural economy, promoting openness to various cultural experiences, and consolidating dialogue among peoples and cultures.
The meeting, chaired by H.H. Prince Badr bin Abdullah Bin Farhan, Saudi Culture Minister, addressed three themes, namely : culture protection, sustainable development, and culture as a driver for economic growth and international exchange.
The Ministers participating in this meeting raised issues relating to the production, dissemination, distribution and consumption of cultural contents, through the use of technology and innovative means.
In his intervention, Dr. Ould Amar indicated that ALECSO is keen on working to meet the challenges that cultural action faces at this critical stage. He highlighted ALECSO’s conviction that economic and social development cannot be achieved without cultural development, and that global peace cannot be established without tackling the root causes of tension and conflict between multiple cultural identities, and without promoting human solidarity and equal dialogue between cultures, as an alternative to conflicts and fractures; hence the need for a culture that embraces the future and responds to the renewed ambitions and aspirations of future generations.
