Tunisia’s Head of Government receives Director-General of ALECSO

H.E. Mr. Hichem Mechichi, Head of Government of the Republic of Tunisia, received, on November 3, 2020, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO.
The Director-General took this opportunity to congratulate the Head of Government on his appointment to this position, wishing him full success in fulfilling his mandate, especially in these exceptional circumstances. He also expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Tunisian President, Government and people for the continuous attention and support offered to the Organization so that it can perform its mission as best as possible.
The Director-General expressed deep appreciation of the ongoing cooperation between ALECSO and the Tunisian Ministries concerned with its fields of action. He offered a comprehensive overview of ALECSO’s current activities and programs, and the vision informing its Strategic Plan for the period 2023-2028. He pointed to the project of updating the Comprehensive Plan for Arab Culture in light of current circumstances and regional and global transformations, along with the new inscriptions on the World Heritage List. He expressed ALECSO’s readiness to pursue cooperation with the Tunisian relevant ministries toward achieving the desired goals.
On his part, the Head of Government thanked the Director-General for this visit and expressed appreciation of the significant role and valuable achievements of the Organization. He called for focusing more attention on building an Arab generation that serves the causes of the Arab Nation, understands the magnitude of current challenges, and embraces science and knowledge. He indicated that ALECSO has a key role to play in ensuring quality equitable and inclusive education for all, in implementation of Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He underlined the need to pay more attention to promoting the culture of moderation and tolerance, and upholding shared universal principles and values.
The Head of Government stressed the need to pursue cooperation between ALECSO and the Tunisian Ministries in charge of education, culture, sciences and vocational training, through a joint committee to be set up to that end.
At the end of the meeting, the Director General offered the “ALECSO Shield” to the Tunisian Head of Government, in the presence of the Minister of Education, the political advisor to the Head of Government, and the Head of Office of the Director-General.
