It was insisted, in this meeting, that in view of the tremendous challenges with which cities are currently confronted, especially with outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis, it is now necessary to promptly work on developing an action plan that combines the efforts of all stakeholders, both official and private, as well as urban communities, and to further strengthen cooperation and partnership among all relevant actors toward achieving Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Agenda, which aims to “make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”
In her intervention, Dr. Guermazi highlighted the importance of preserving the memory of Arab cities and making best use of their rich knowledge and skills to promote sustainable urban development. This would provide new jobs that involve creativity and innovation and use the great potential offered by modern technologies, which, in turn, would enhance the prosperity of urban societies, a prerequisite for achieving social integration, security and peace for our cities.
