The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector), in cooperation with ALECSO, UNESCO, and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, held a remote meeting attended by experts in technical and vocational education.
In an opening statement, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, pointed out that the exceptional circumstances the world is currently going through have had adverse repercussions on all walks of life, including on the education sector. In response to this situation, ALECSO has launched a number of initiatives to maintain the continuity of education and training for tens of millions of students. In this regard, it has developed online platforms, applications, and websites, organized teacher-training workshops, and compiled the states’ relevant experiences to be shared and built upon in the future. ALECSO, he added, is working jointly with member States and partners to plan and prepare for the post-COVID-19 era, so that the education and training sector can manage to overcome the adverse effects of the crisis.
Concerning technical and vocational education and training, Dr. Ould Amar indicated that ALECSO is keen on giving increased attention to this sector in its Strategic Plan for the period 2023-2028 and in its future policies and programs, as part of its contribution to achieving SDG4-Education 2030. He added that ALECSO is preparing to hold the second conference of Arab Ministers in charge of technical and vocational education and training.
