ALECSO participates in organizing the meeting of the High Coordination Committee to discuss and adopt the executive plan for the general framework for Arab scientific research in social, cultural and economic fields

As part of cooperation between ALECSO, the General-Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Association of Arab Universities, and the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, a remote meeting of the High Coordination Committee was held on September 30, 2020, to discuss and adopt the executive plan for the general framework of Arab scientific research in social, cultural and economic fields.
The opening statements underlined the pressing need to develop a framework for Arab scientific research in the social, cultural and economic fields, given the strategic importance of this framework in advancing scientific research in Arab countries in these vital sectors, which would help Arab States achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Department of Science and Scientific Research at ALECSO, and the Department of Education and Scientific Research at the Arab League, along with experts from Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania, members of the Working Team in charge of preparing the Executive Plan for the general framework of Arab scientific research in social, cultural and economic fields.
The meeting discussed the Executive Plan and came out with a number of recommendations, for the implementation of which the necessary actions will be taken.
It is worth recalling that the idea of developing a general framework for Arab scientific research in social, cultural and economic fields falls in line with the Arab Strategy for Scientific Research, Technology and Innovation, adopted by virtue of Resolution No. 700 issued by the 28th Arab Summit (2017), which stressed “the need to address and highlight the social, cultural and economic dimensions of scientific research, and to give them the attention they deserve.”
The Higher Coordination Committee, composed of ALECSO, the General-Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Association of Arab Universities, and the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, was set up to follow up on the implementation of the Arab Strategy for Scientific Research, Technology and Innovation.
