As part of ALECSO’s efforts to safeguard cultural heritage and promote its use to serve sustainable development, and in implementation of its responsibility to provide guidance to cultural heritage professionals in Arab countries, the Culture Department at ALECSO organized, on September 29, 2020, an interactive remote workshop on “The role of international conventions and charters in safeguarding world heritage”, designed for specialists in the United Republic of Comoros.
The workshop was opened by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, and H.E. Mr. Noureddine Bin Ahmed, Minister of Youth, Employment, Labor, Training, Vocational Integration, Sports, Arts and Culture.
The workshop was devoted to highlighting the main provisions of the international instruments related to heritage preservation, and to presenting the historical and legal frameworks thereof.
Discussions focused on the Comoros’ state of implementation of these agreements and the country’s needs as regards preserving cultural heritage, using it to serve development, and building national capacities in this field.
It was agreed to organize two training workshops on “Charters and conventions adopted by ICOMOS” and on the “UNESCO 2003 Convention on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage”, to which Comorian specialists will be invited.
