ALECSO holds First Meeting of the  Permanent Advisory Committee on School and University Health


H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, opened the first virtual meeting of the Permanent Advisory Committee on School and University Health, held by ALECSO’s Education Department on August 25, 2020, in coordination with Arab Ministries of Education and Ministries of Health. The aim of the meeting was to strengthen consultation and cooperation, especially amid the current health emergency situation caused by the continuing spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his opening statement, Dr. Ould Amar extended his greetings and sincere thanks to the Arab Ministers of Education and Ministers of Health as well as to all those working in the education and health sectors, including doctors, professors, teachers, nurses and other staff, for their generous efforts to ensure a safe return to schools and universities. He stressed, in this regard, that protecting the health of society and the safety of its members from physical and psychological illnesses, and taking care of students’ health, are among the best ways to improve education and enhance its quality.
The Committee members offered interesting presentations on the preventive measures and safety protocols established by Arab States to ensure a safe return to schools and universities. In this context, they expressed their appreciation of ALECSO’s proposal for developing a Joint Arab School Health Handbook, and their willingness to cooperate with the Organization in this regard. They also contributed a number of recommendations and proposals to further promote school and university health across the Arab World.
