ALECSO holds training session on  “Research- and Inquiry-based Science Teaching”

In cooperation with the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, ALECSO’s Department of Science and Scientific Research held, on August 17-20, 2020, in Tripoli, Libya, a training session on “Research- and Inquiry-based Science Teaching”.
This training event was attended by inspectors and teachers of natural sciences in Libyan secondary schools. It aimed at providing trainees with core knowledge, skills and competencies related to scientific approaches and the teaching of science based on research and inquiry.
The training program focused on :
­ The requirements of research- and inquiry-based learning and the related skills;
­ Steps of research- and inquiry-based learning;
­ The role of the teacher in research- and inquiry-based learning;
­ Types of inquiry (guided, free …).
The program also involved the presentation of inquiry activities in chemistry, physics and biology.
The training session was supervised by Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Amrou Askar, Libyan Expert and Professor of Curriculum at the University of Tripoli.
This event is part of a series of training sessions implemented by ALECSO’s Department of Science and Scientific Research in response to the requests of Arab States, with the aim of upgrading the level of teachers of sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth sciences), and training them on how to use the research- and inquiry-based approach to improve the quality of science education in Arab schools.
