 ALECSO holds virtual meeting on  “the advancement of joint Arab cultural action  in light of Sustainable Development Goals”

 As part of ALECSO’s endeavor to provide opportunities for Arab and foreign experts and researchers to further enrich discussions on ways to enhance joint Arab cultural action and align it with the current global and regional developments, Dr. Hayat Guermazi, Director of the Culture Department, chaired a virtual meeting on “Prospects for the advancement of joint Arab cultural action in light of Sustainable Development Goals 2030”.

Participants included Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Professor of Sociology at Cairo University, who offered a paper on the "Paradigms of cultural identity formation and disintegration in Arab societies”; Dr. Abdullah Al-Sayed Ould Abah, Professor of Philosophical and Social Studies at the University of Nouakchott, who addressed the meeting on "the dialectics of heritage and identity”; and Eng. Jaafar Jassim, Iraqi expert in information science, who made an intervention on “the effects of ICT on the reference values ​​of Arab societies.”

A rich discussion then took place on the common cultural aspects of Arab countries, the ways to promote dialogue with the Other and keep pace with global developments, the relationship between identity and cultural heritage, and the use of cultural assets to entrench the values ​​of openness and rejection of violence and to promote sustainable development.
