The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) held, on July 22, 2020, the first meeting of the “Permanent Advisory Committee on Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the Arab World”, with the participation of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and the DLT Group.
HE Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar opened the meeting and welcomed all participants. He pointed out that ALECSO has created this Committee with the aim of enhancing consultation and coordination and developing sustainable partnership between the Organization, ministries in charge of the TVET sector, and all relevant partners. This, he added, will strengthen cooperation to advance the TVET sector across the Arab world, in line with the resolutions of the 4th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit (Beirut, January 2019).
The meeting discussed the ways and means to upgrade the TVET system and foster Arab States’ efforts to achieve further progress in implementing Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It also reviewed the difficulties facing education and training systems in emergency and crisis situations. It concluded with a set of recommendations that included proposals made by the Committee members.
